Crazy Cool Cross Country!!

What an amazing day we had today! I am so proud of the huge effort and grit all of the Room 22 children put into their run. They pushed themselves so hard and did better than I could have ever asked of them. Super proud teacher and I bet some super proud parents!

Simple toys - complex play

Room 22 have been using some amazing creativity and imagination with some different objects in our play. Simple pipes have been turned into race chutes for ping pong balls and cars - made even more fun by water! We all found it very tricky to work out which pipes fitted together to make the pipe long enough to lean on the seat. Super problem solving and close observations were required.

A few sheets, some pegs and the class chairs were transformed into a garage to park the construction vehicles and later a castle that Olaf could live in if it was magically turned into ice!

It is fascinating listening to the conversations the children have while building, planning, debating and constructing. The diplomacy and problem solving to achieve something they are all happy with are great skills that life long learners need to grow and learn.

Sand and shaving cream make a squishy, super fun and sensory experience - it is also leaves the classroom smelling super clean!

Maths, Maths and more Maths!

At various times during the day the very clever children in Room 22 are given time to make decisions about things they wish to do. Some return to the same activities day after day until they feel they have mastered it or have had enough. Many will move around a variety of activities during this time. I have been super excited by the amount of children who have been choosing from lots of Numeracy games and activities. Their knowledge and understanding is showing great improvement and this is awesome to see. They are showing so much enthusiasm for numbers and they way they are working together and helping others is wonderful!

Maths and M & M's!

Room 22 have been learning about collecting and graphing all sorts of information from eye colour to how they get to school. They have discovered some great facts about the children who make up Room 22 but you can't beat being able to eat your Maths investigations! The children sorted their own packets of M & M's and then coloured in a graph with great excitement and competitions about who had the most of each colour. Everybody even had a enough self control to get all the graphing and questions completed before they savoured their treats. It was very interesting to watch whose were gone in the first minute and who still had some saved at the end of the day!

Growing our brains...

In Room 22 we have been working hard to show grit and perseverance in all we do. It is just too easy to say I can't do it, especially when we our little brains have so many new things to be learning! We are trying really hard to say "I can't do it....YET". Learning to skip has been a perfect example of this. On the first day it was the first time many of us had trying skipping with a rope and many of us wanted to give up and go back inside. After just a few days we are doing an amazing job. Seeing the huge smiles and the cries of "watch me" and "I did it" are so amazing to hear! I am so proud of all of you when you just keep trying!

Quadro and Gator show us some tricks!

Wow what a busy and exciting week. We had a super visit from Graeme and Quadro and Dave and Gator, the police dogs and their handlers. Quadro was a great counter and luckily he found Daves lost keys with his super sniffing nose. Gator was called Gator because his mouth and teeth were like an alligators and he was very big dog!

We were very excited we got to pat Quadro but some of us were a bit nervous..lucky he was super friendly!

We learnt that Police dogs are super clever at finding things like lost people, robbers and bad guys. Someone even thought they might find ghosts!
