Our magical kaitiaki has moved in!

There was lots of buzz this morning as we realised that someone special had moved into Room 23 and left us some very cool gifts! Just below our whanau tree we discovered a tiny, little door and a note for us to read together...

A kaitiaki has moved in! We are learning about how a kaitiaki is a person or thing that is a guardian of somewhere and looks after and respects their special place. The children in Room 23 are learning to be kaitiaki by looking after our class, school and special belongings. We have been talking about how we look after our toys and learning tools so that they last and we also need to look after each other and the relationships we have with each other.

The kaitiaki thought we had been doing such an amazing job that he left us some new toys that have been a hit! We were lucky to get a farm set and an awesome car mat.

The kaitiaki also asked if we could make his letterbox super special so he can receive mail. The children did a super job making the mailbox look superb. They have so many questions for the kaitiaki and are planning on lots of letters to him. I wonder when he comes out? How does he open the door? What does he look like? What is his name?

Keep calm and hug a Teddy Bear!

Wow what a lovely day we had with our Teddy Bears. It was so wonderful to meet everybody's teddies and hear how and why they are special. We had a busy day...in the morning we showed them our dance moves and built houses for them to hang out in. As it got closer to lunchtime and we had done many things with our bears we headed down to Room 14 and 15 to meet our big buddies. They helped us to write some stories and make some tasty Teddy Face sandwiches - thanks big people, its great to get to know some new faces we can recognise in the playground!

Proud smiles...

Assembly was fun last week with lots of singing and certificates. We got a chance to welcome Jazz to Frimley and she has made our little class complete. We love having your lovely smile and quiet sense of humour Jazz.

Maia and Jack received the Principals Award and Star Card this week for being amazing role models for others in the class and for beginning to take risks and challenging themselves in their learning and play. Well done guys!

Wow - a super busy and clever Room 23!

Assembly Certificates...

Every week at Frimley we have an assembly, whether it be with the whole school, Heretaunga Ararau or our houses and each week one class member is awarded the very special Principals Award. We also hand out a Star Award as a special mention of someone deserving. These certificates are sort after and can be awarded for many different reasons from academic achievement, awesome attitude or just individual personal successes. Every week it is a very tricky decision to make with so much going on and be achieved and learnt. The following wonderful children have received the certificates in the past 2 weeks - don't they look super proud and so they should!

Learning to play and explore

We had a very busy end of our first few weeks of school. We all worked very hard all week to learn how to be at school and play within Rm 23.

We talked lots about how to play and what to do if we have a problem.

We talked about the Chinese New Year celebrations that had happened on the weekend before we started school. We decided to make a Chinese dragon to hang in our room. Jianzhi told us they bring
luck.

We had to paint some paper plates and thread them together to make the dragon. Make sure you come and check him out when you visit our classroom.
