Our magical kaitiaki has moved in!

There was lots of buzz this morning as we realised that someone special had moved into Room 23 and left us some very cool gifts! Just below our whanau tree we discovered a tiny, little door and a note for us to read together...

A kaitiaki has moved in! We are learning about how a kaitiaki is a person or thing that is a guardian of somewhere and looks after and respects their special place. The children in Room 23 are learning to be kaitiaki by looking after our class, school and special belongings. We have been talking about how we look after our toys and learning tools so that they last and we also need to look after each other and the relationships we have with each other.

The kaitiaki thought we had been doing such an amazing job that he left us some new toys that have been a hit! We were lucky to get a farm set and an awesome car mat.

The kaitiaki also asked if we could make his letterbox super special so he can receive mail. The children did a super job making the mailbox look superb. They have so many questions for the kaitiaki and are planning on lots of letters to him. I wonder when he comes out? How does he open the door? What does he look like? What is his name?
