Diwali - Festival of Lights!

Wow what an amazing celebration of culture and amazing people. On Tuesday Frimley School Celebrated Diwali in style! Many of our Indian community worked together to make this day super special. We learnt that the festival is 5 days long and celebrates good over evil and light over dark. and happens at the Indian New Year. The celebrations include dancing, eating, music, beautiful outfits, candles, fireworks, decorations and most importantly people.

Seven amazing children from our class came dressed up beautifully and performed an amazing dance to the whole school. They were outstanding and I couldn't believe how brave they were! All the wonderful practise paid off and they were shining stars....check it out!

We were also very lucky that Dhiyaa's Mum made an amazing Rangoli outside the hall....what wonderful detail and so much persistence for over 2 hours!

 We tried to make our own Rangoli using coloured salt - it was tricky and fiddly but we ended up with some stunning pictures!

The Indian culture has so many wonderful colours and patterns...the children were very proud to have parents, siblings and grandparents join us and the Frimley Staff were pretty privledged to taste some amazing Indian food for our morning tea.....yum!

Cool Cross Country Stars

Every single person in Room 23 blew me away with how hard they tried on Cross Country day! They just kept going even though it was a long way and they were so clever at encouraging each other and others in their house - you make me SO proud!

Going into the Pit...

We have been talking about the Learning Pit. If you are learning something new you often have to go into the pit. Good learners take the risk to learn something new. At first when we learn something new we can be unsure and a little worried that we might look silly or won't be able to do it. We have learnt that it is OK to make mistakes and that is how we learn. 

We say we can't do something 'YET'. We just have to keep trying! Learning to have that grit and perseverance is a wonderful and will help in many things as we grow and learn.

We have all been trying new things that we find tough ranging from new maths ideas, how to write stories, how to skip with a rope and we even tried to tie our own laces. These are all tricky new skills and we just have to keep trying and never give up!

Play...the highest form of research!

In our play in Room 23 we continue to learn, amaze our teachers and ourselves and have fun while we do this...

We have lots of sorting, ordering and patterning happening in Room 23. This shows beautifully how we are learning while we play as the Maths curriculum states we should be able to 'create and continue sequential patterns'

Magnets have been a big hit this week - we have discovered that just because it looks like metal doesn't mean it will stick to the magnet. We have also had fun looking around the class to see what is magnetic and investigating how strong the magnets are by testing how many things will stick to each.  Some of us also worked out that for magnets to stick together each one had to be a certain way around.

One morning we arrived to find some rope hung up outside - Nurse Wendy thought we were going to hang out our washing! Liam and Jindveer decided to make a hut and off they went. Sheets, pegs and of course seating for inside! Many friends came to visit their amazing creation and we had some great discussions about pass words, sharing what we had created and space inside the hut!

 Jayziah and Edison worked so hard on their dinosaur park. It took a lot of grit and perseverance to get it how they liked it. It was hard and frustrating with others working around them in the same space but they got there. Their park had a place for all the dinosaurs, the big ones had a separate part, the army men, our block people and of course the diggers! You were so proud - great team work!

One sunny morning we had some shaving foam on the table to investigate. We all ended up helping to clean it up but then we discovered when we wrote on the concrete it was fun to watch it slowly disappear like magic in the sunshine. We were writing letters and words - so clever!

Beyblades and spinning tops are a huge hit in Room 23 at the moment. It is great to hear some of the conversations around this play. You are working collaboratively to make up rules, turn taking and giving each other tips. It is very tricky to sit and watch when you are "out" but you support and encourage each other and really enjoy your challenges. This table has numbers on it and this helped you to decide the score! Great thinking outside the box boys!

Jianzhi and Jack have been making some amazing creations with construction toy that has cogs and moving parts - without any guidance (Tessa wasn't sure how it worked anyway!) they were able to make cars and towers that moved - super thinking, risk taking and trial and error boys!

Mr J found some sit on diggers deep in the shed and thought we would love to have a turn. They are tricky to work to start with as you have move legs and arms together to make them work but you were all very successful. You worked out how to have turns and I even heard George giving someone tips. Nice job George.

This race track has just arrived in Room 23 and is now being upgraded and adapted to make it even cooler. So many different options are being trialled...
